If you do NOT have a printer connected to your computer then you could try using a computer at your local library or at work. Since the requisitions in PDF file format are stored on the MDLabTests Web site, all you need is your user name, password, and Internet access to print from any location.
- You MUST present a printed copy of your requisition to the local laboratory of your choice.
Vitamin D Test
- Vitamin D Blood Test - Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy (sample test results) - This test costs less than Vitamin D Spot Tests, and you will get the results back a lot faster. This 25-hydroxy vitamin D test is the one you want to take twice a year for determining where you stand with your blood levels of vitamin D, after supplementing with a specific size of vitamin D supplements for a few months.
- Do NOT take any vitamin D supplements on the day of your test.
- A morning fasting specimen is required, or do not eat for 4 hours before the test.
- Calcium, Serum (CA) (sample test results) - CA measures the amount of calcium in the blood. It is used to check for vitamin D toxicity or hypercalcemia.
- Do take any caliculm supplements on the day of your test.
- A morning fasting specimen is required, or do not eat for 4 hours before the test.
Cholesterol Tests
- Lipid Panel (sample test results) - The Lipid Panel is the preferred test for testing your cholesterol levels. It breaks the results down by total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (calculation), triglycerides, and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol (calculation).
- Be on a stable diet, for two to three weeks prior to collection of blood.
- Fast the night before for 12 to 14 hours before taking the test.
- Homocysteine, Plasma - Homocysteine, an amino acid, is considered by many to be an independent risk factor for atherosclerosis. This test will tell you how effective your diet is for meeting all your folic acid, B-6, and B-12 needs. And, whether you need to be supplementing with an effective form of B-12.
- Fast the night before for 12 to 14 hours before taking the test.
- C-Reactive Protein (CRP) (sample test results) - CRP as a measure of inflammation is thought by many to be more accurate than cholesterol levels in predicting coronary / heart problems. This test will measure the level of CRP in your blood.
- A morning fasting specimen is required, or do not eat for 4 hours before the test.
Food Sensitivity / Allergy Tests
Our laboratory cannot detect antibodies (allergies) to a specific food, unless you are regularly eating that food.
- Gluten (sample test results) - This is a low cost test designed to detect your sensitivity to gluten.
The MDLabTests Web site takes privacy very seriously. Thus, it is suggested that you be sure to write down and keep in a safe place both your user name and password. To see both your requisition and test results you have to click the account link twice. For some reason, assuming that you are already logged in the first click turns up a screen that suggests that you need to register. The second click, however, to account link will return your PDF files.
There is a small service charge, which is currently $6.00. Most of the blood test fee goes to Lab Corp that actually does the blood testing. The service charge covers the cost of the physician, their emails, and the cost of uploading your private PDF files to their Web site. Thus the most economical approach is to take more than one blood test at a time, such as a lipid profile or CRP.
