SEO Tips & Tricks: They Don't Want You to Know About

Technorati has become Google Junior

Technorati is the premiere search engine for blogs on the Web. It really should be called Google Junior, since it is just as difficult to work with. In many respects with both Technorati and Google, it is all about link building, rather than content development.

Technorati is Google Junior

Google’s Blog search engine really reeks! The Technorati blog search engine offers a lot more search options that are a lot more interesting to view. But, when it comes to what they can do for bloggers Technorati sucks as much if not more than Google does.

John has thoroughly researched Technorati and Technorati tags. And, has run a number of tests. You simply cannot believe Technorati when it says:

“To contribute to this page, include this code in your blog post:”

John H. Gohde has been trying to get his name tagged in Technorati using the proper tag coding for what seems like eons. Still to this day, his tag page is completely empty. Just like Google, Technorati passes judgments upon blogs. Good content development, nor use of the proper tag coding has anything to do with getting listed in Technorati’s general tag index.

Further, John has tested out several Technorati plugins. Technorati will automatically accept both standard WordPress categories and tags. Using special Technorati Tags is no longer necessary, nor helpful at all.

John tried removing all WordPress categories and tag classifications from his blog in a test on his home / post index page, as well as those on his post pages. Then he added unique Technorati Tags to the posts. Even though only Technorati Tags were visible on his blog, Technorati nonetheless was able to figure out which WordPress tags John had inserted on his new posts. Which meant that when Technorati was pinged, it does a considerable amount of crawling on blogs. It had to have crawled its way around to the tag index page which listed tags randomly and then have crawled everyone of those tag pages looking for the tags associated with the new posts. Or, perhaps it was able to matched it up from an archive page? Either way, Technorati was using a surprising amount of artificial intelligence.

Technorati Requires Good Authority

The only rational conclusion that John H. Gohde has been able to derived from his research is that both Google and Technorati are preoccupied with link building. With Technorati it is called authority. Technorati will index your blog, but will isolate it to links that have your blog URL tacked onto the end of it in Technorati’s Blog Index. Technorati in effect starts out by creating duplicate content issues, long before any link boost from them appears in Google. Technorati wont list your posts in their general tag index until your blog surpasses a certain authority threshold.

With Technorati, authority is the number of blogs linking to a Web site in the last six months. While different from Google’s backward links system, it imposes a hurdle on link starved blogs that is very difficult to overcome. Technorati wont make blogs more visible until they are listed in Technorati’s general tag index. And, blogs wont be visible until they are listed by search engines, like Technorati. Ergo, if you ever expect to be listed in Technorati then your blog has to engage in some type of link building tactic. When a blog is in need of a link boost, they certainly wont get it from Technorati. When you finally do get a link boost from Technorati, you really wont need it at all.
