SEO Tips & Tricks: They Don't Want You to Know About

Knocking Out Double Listings

It is surprisingly easy to get double listings in Google for any keyword phrase that you decide to go after.  The conditions under which they will occur are few and simple.Yet, surprising few Web sites ever bother to go after them.

With the exception of authority sites, Google will list a maximum of two webpages from each Web site or domain in any SERP.  The webpages chosen for listing are simply the top two webpages in each domain for a given SERP.  Furthermore, at least two webpages from the same domain have to be showing up in the same SERP.  That in a nutshell explains everything that you need to know about it.

Do You Have Double Listings?

Knocking Out Double Listings
Whether or not two webpages will show up in the SERPs from your Web site for a given keyword depends entirely upon how well you have optimized your Web site.  At the minimum you will need a least two webpages targeting the same keyword.  Further, both pages have to be optimized well enough to be showing up in the same SERP.

By default Google will list ten webpages for each SERP, but that is not always the case.  Each user makes their own decisions as to how many webpages they want to be listed in the SERPs.  Therefore, you can make it easier for double listings to show up by electing to list 100 webpages rather than the default ten.  Furthermore, doing this will show you exactly which two webpages Google is ranking the highest from your Web site.

Going After Double Listings

Generally, you wont even attempt to go after a double listing unless you already have one webpage that is ranking well in the SERPs.  The fool proof procedure for consistently knocking out double listings is really quite simple.

  1. Determine which one of your other webpages is most likely by Google to be listed as a double listing.  There are a couple of ways of doing this.  You can either list 100 webpages in each SERP.  Or, you can search just your Web site for the targeted keyword phrase.
  2. If not already done, improve the on-page optimization of your target webpage identified from step 1 above.
  3. Link to that targeted webpage on everyone of your new posts and / or webpages with anchor text that contains your targeted keyword phraseuntil Google starts producing the desired double listings.  This tactic willNOT work unless you are using the correct anchor text in your links.
