Our dictionary was created by the
original founder of this project, as the next step in the evolution of the Wikipedia Project on Alternative Medicine.
Regrettably, the Project chose the wrong name to begin with. It should have been called the Project on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM).
But, at the time that the project was created in April 2004 the main
article on Wikipedia was called alternative medicine.
Our
site's webmaster participated in creating an orange colored infobox
that both organized and classified a large number of encyclopedic
articles on alternative medicine. While the project did not write most
of the CAM related articles on Wikipedia, our infobox made it easier
for the public to find other CAM related articles. This GNU Free
Documentation Project on Alternative Medicine was successful as it got information on Complementary and Alternative Medicine
out on the Internet both at the original site, as well as on a very large number of mirror sites.
For
example, here are a number of websites that still display our original
orange colored infobox for natural health information.
- Natural health: Fablis.com
- Natural health: Information Blast
- Natural health: wiki.tatet.com
Wikipedian
Skeptics felt threaten by our Project, and started to attack it for
promoting Complementary and Alternative Medicine, calling our infoboxes spam. So, there
are even more mirror copies of Wikipedia that contain later
variations of our orange colored infobox, after all of our original CamMenu
template infobox had been deleted by anti-alternative medicine skeptics.
- Natural health: QUICKLY FIND
- Natural health: wordIQ.com
There are also dozens of other mirror copies of Wikipedia, where our
orange colored infobox has been deleted completely from some articles,
such as:
- Natural health: NationMaster.com
But, in most cases a variation of our oranged colored infobox is still there on the original site: Wikipedia.

This was the original CamMenu template InfoBox for our project at Wikipedia which was used to link the article to other
related articles on complementary and alternative medicine.

All of the encyclopedia articles at Wikipedia
were created in an environment that was openly hostile to anything related to alternative medicine. Furthermore,
all of their articles are supposed to conform to what they call a neutral point of view (NPOV), which is more pro-medical scientism
at its worst than neutral. Wikipedia today is just as closed minded about
the subject of complementary and alternative medicine as ever.
The good news is that time stops for nobody, not even Wikipedia.
The Project is still active. The tagging of articles and display of infoboxes and
templates on Wikipedia in general has become acceptable. Now, around 600 articles have been tagged
as belonging to complementary and alternative medicine by the
Project. The
number of articles available on complemenatary and alternative medicine is
steadily growing despite the best efforts of the
Wikipedian skeptics.
